Jordan rejects the US embassy report about the evacuation of the airport and port of Aqaba
Jordanian officials denied the US embassy report about the evacuation of the airport and port of Aqaba due to a specific and credible threat, stating that both facilities are operating normally.
Mohammad Momani, the spokesperson for the Jordanian government, told AFP that no official order has been issued to evacuate the international airport or the port of Aqaba.
Earlier, the US embassy in Amman had announced in a statement that Jordanian authorities evacuated the airport and port of Aqaba due to a specific and credible threat and had advised American citizens to avoid visiting these locations and to adhere to security guidelines.
The US embassy statement did not mention the nature of the threat. This comes as, following the resumption of reciprocal attacks between Iran and the US, Jordan has also been exposed to attacks, and Iran has declared that its targets are US bases on Jordanian soil.
