Josep Borrell: Northern Gaza is facing a full-scale famine
The European Union’s foreign policy chief has expressed concern about the onset of a full-scale famine in Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire.
Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy chief, emphasized the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, pointing to the emergence of a full-scale famine in northern Gaza.
He wrote on the social network X, formerly Twitter, that what we greatly feared has happened. According to Cindy McCain, head of the World Food Program, northern Gaza is facing a full-scale famine, and this is spreading to the south as well.
This senior European diplomat further stated that the international community’s request, which has been ignored until now, must be heeded. The UN Security Council Resolution 2728 must be fully and immediately implemented. A ceasefire is necessary to free hostages and alleviate the suffering of those caught in the famine.
He expressed appreciation for the effective efforts of UNRWA and other UN agencies, stating that Israel is obligated to ensure full, safe, rapid, and unobstructed access for those in need to humanitarian aid.
