Josep Borrell was tasked with preparing and presenting specific proposals to intensify sanctions on Iran.
Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, was tasked today, Monday, April 23, by a joint decision of the 27 foreign ministers of the union, to prepare and present specific proposals to intensify sanctions on Iran.
These sanctions should focus on restricting trade with Iran in such a way that the country faces difficulties in building and developing its drones and missiles. Additionally, the sanctions should target individuals, institutions, and companies involved in the production of drones and missiles and their delivery to paramilitary forces allied with the Islamic Republic in the region.
The initial agreement on intensifying sanctions on Iran took place last week following the escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel.
According to Annalena Baerbock, Germany’s foreign minister, on the sidelines of the EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg, the issue is about employing all available sanctions to prevent attacks by Iran and its allies on Israel.
