Journalists' Call for the Release of Elaheh Mohammadi and Niloufar Hamedi

Request from journalists for the release of Elaheh Mohammadi and Niloufar Hamedi

Dozens of journalists and reporters residing in Iran have written a letter to the head of the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic, requesting the release of Elaheh Mohammadi and Niloufar Hamedi, two journalists arrested during the recent protests.

The signatories of this letter, referring to the widespread pardon of those arrested in the nationwide protests in recent weeks, expressed regret over the halt of this action for unknown reasons and have called for the continuation of this process on the eve of the new solar year.

Niloufar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohammadi, who covered the events and incidents related to the aftermath of Mahsa Amini’s death through publication in Iran’s official media, were arrested by security agencies in the early days of the nationwide protests and, after many days of interrogation in solitary cells in Evin Prison, are currently being held in Qarchak Varamin Women’s Prison.
