The Deputy of the Judiciary spoke about the protests, saying that Twitter, WhatsApp, and Instagram supported this movement.
Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy for International Affairs of the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stated that Twitter, WhatsApp, and Instagram supported the protests that began in September.
Mr. Gharibabadi mentioned in a television program that it wasn’t about Twitter, WhatsApp, and Instagram coming forward for freedom of speech; rather, it’s not about freedom of speech at all. It’s a hybrid war where media and cyberspace must play their roles.
The Deputy of the Iranian Judiciary stated that Twitter opens 4 Persian accounts per month, but in the first month of the unrest, 50,000 fake accounts in Persian were created, controlled by bots to wage a war against Iran, which was well managed.
The social network Twitter has been filtered since the protests over the results of the 2009 presidential elections, and during the recent protests, the authorities of the Islamic Republic also filtered the social network Instagram and the messaging app WhatsApp.
