Judiciary Spokesperson: 115 Security Convicts in Tehran Have Been Pardoned

Asghar Jahangir, spokesperson for Iran’s judiciary, announced today, Tuesday, October 28, that the leader of the Islamic Republic has agreed to reduce the sentences of a large number of convicts and prisoners, and so far, 115 security convicts in Tehran have been pardoned by the leader.

The judiciary spokesperson emphasized Khamenei’s agreement with the conditional pardon and sentence reduction for these security convicts, adding that the process of pardoning prisoners, considering the conditions and timeline, will continue until the end of December, and the exact and final number of those pardoned will be announced at the end of December.

The judiciary of the Islamic Republic rarely pardons political prisoners and what it refers to as security prisoners.

Even in such rare instances, critics consider it to be a show and insufficient.

In recent years, especially after the nationwide protests in 2022 and the increase in the number of political detainees, the judiciary has announced several times about widespread pardons.
