The Kayhan newspaper apologized to the national football team
Hossein Shariatmadari, the managing director of the hardline Kayhan newspaper, has apologized in the editorial of the newspaper for what he referred to as last week’s complaints against the national football team.
This newspaper had called the national team players ‘disgraceful’ when they did not sing the Islamic Republic’s anthem in their first World Cup match against the England national team.
Yesterday, in the match against Wales, most of the players sang the anthem and eventually won the game 2-0. In today’s editorial titled ‘A Man’s Word Is Not Just One’, which has been widely covered by other media in Iran, Mr. Shariatmadari wrote that apologizing for misunderstandings and mistakes is one of the Islamic manners and a sign of chivalry.
He wrote that it is necessary to correct what was brought up as a complaint in the subheading of Kayhan’s front-page headline on Tuesday, November 22nd, and to express his great appreciation for our national football team.
