Kayhan Newspaper Apologized to the National Football Team

The Kayhan newspaper apologized to the national football team

Hossein Shariatmadari, the managing director of the hardline Kayhan newspaper, in the newspaper’s daily editorial, has apologized for what he described as last week’s complaint against the national football team.

When the players of the national team did not sing the Islamic Republic’s anthem in their first World Cup match against the England national team, this newspaper called them unpatriotic.

Yesterday, in the match against Wales, most of the players sang the anthem and eventually won the game 2-0. Mr. Shariatmadari, in today’s editorial titled ‘A Man’s Word is Not Final’, which has been widely covered by other media in Iran, wrote that apologizing for any misunderstanding and mistake is one of the Islamic etiquettes and a sign of chivalry.

He wrote that we find it necessary to amend what was brought as a complaint in the subheading of Kayhan’s front-page headline on Tuesday, November 22, and to express our great appreciation for our national football team.
