The Khuzestan Department of Environmental Protection reported that the fire has spread to the Iranian section of the Hawizeh Marshes.
The state news agency IRNA, citing Davood Mirshakar, the director general of Khuzestan’s Environmental Protection, reported that 500 hectares of reed beds in the Hawizeh Marshes have burned. According to this government official, the recent fire had affected Reservoir No. 1 of the marshes in the Iranian section since Monday.
Farhad Ghalinzhad, deputy director of the Khuzestan Department of Environmental Protection, reported that the recent fire had spread from the Iraqi section of the Hawizeh Marshes to the Iranian section. He stated that despite requests to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic and Iraq, no results have been achieved yet.
On Wednesday, Ghalinzhad stated that the fire in the Iraqi section of the Hawizeh Marshes began on Sunday, July 15, and has now spread to the Iranian section as well. At the same time, the director general of this department announced that the fire has been contained.
