The landing of the first commercial spacecraft on the moon failed.
A Japanese lunar lander attempted to become the first human-made commercial spacecraft to land on the moon on Tuesday, but existing evidence indicates that the mission was not successful.
According to reports, the Hakuto-R lander was supposed to land on the moon’s surface on the evening of Tuesday, April 25th. However, as it approached the surface, contact with the control center was lost, and with the continued loss of contact, flight engineers concluded that the spacecraft likely crashed into the surface and became inoperative.
Hakuto-R was carrying a spherical robot the size of a baseball, jointly developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and the toy company Takara Tomy, creators of Transformer toys. The lander also had the 10-kilogram Rashid rover with it, which was built in the United Arab Emirates.
