The largest global network for stealing and selling online information was dismantled
One of the largest criminal centers for buying and selling online information in the world has been dismantled in a coordinated international operation
The center known as Genesis Market stole personal information and sold it for exploitation in fraud, often for less than a dollar
Buyers of this information used it to access individuals’ bank accounts or customer accounts in stores
The operation leading to the dismantling of this center was coordinated by police forces in Australia, Europe, the USA, Canada, and the UK, and approximately 120 people connected to this network have been arrested in various countries
The information sold by Genesis Market included details about browsers, IP addresses, and the physical location of individuals, which enabled hackers to impersonate their victims without arousing suspicion and exploit their identities
The dismantling operation was part of an operation known as Cookie Monster, led by the FBI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the USA, and the Dutch police
