Leader of South Korea's People Power Party Announces Resignation Following Election Defeat

The leader of South Korea’s People Power Party announced his resignation following an election defeat.

The ruling conservative People Power Party in South Korea was defeated by the Democratic Party in the parliamentary elections. Following this defeat, the leader of the People Power Party announced that he would resign.

Based on the counted votes, the Democratic Party managed to secure 175 out of 300 parliamentary seats.

Following the announcement of the initial election results, South Korean media reported that Han Duck-soo, the Prime Minister and leader of the ruling party, along with his senior deputies, intend to resign after accepting the election defeat.

Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, reacted to the election results by stating that his party will prioritize efforts to improve South Korea’s economic conditions.
