Lithuania Protests Belarus for Border Violations

Lithuania protests against Belarus for violating its borders

The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement that it has summoned the representative of the Belarusian embassy in Lithuania to convey its strong protest note due to the violation of Lithuanian borders on April 12 by a Belarusian border guard.

In this note, the ministry has asked Belarus to provide an explanation for this incident as soon as possible and to take all necessary measures to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.

The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service announced that a Belarusian border guard entered Lithuania while five Belarusian border guards were patrolling alongside their own border.

Lithuanian officials have stated that this Belarusian officer stepped up to one meter into Lithuanian territory for a few seconds.

This is the first time this year that a Belarusian officer has crossed the Lithuanian border, but such incidents were also recorded in 2021.
