Macron arrived in Damascus
Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, arrived in Damascus for a two-day visit. This marks the first visit by a Western European leader to Syria since the new government of this country took office in 2024.
Asad Sheibani, the Syrian Foreign Minister, welcomed Macron at Damascus Airport. The Élysée Palace had previously announced that during this visit, the French President would emphasize support for a free, pluralistic Syria that respects all segments of society and would call for Damascus to play a role in reducing tensions in the Middle East.
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara has been striving to restore Syria’s international standing and advance the country’s reconstruction process.
