Macron: Ukraine’s NATO membership is the least likely scenario

Emmanuel Macron said Russia views Ukraine’s membership in NATO as provocative, and the likelihood of Kyiv joining this military alliance is unlikely.

French President Emmanuel Macron, during his return from Jordan where he attended the Baghdad Conference 2, stated in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Le Monde, and An-Nahar that Russia sees Ukraine’s membership in the NATO military alliance as provocative. Given Russia’s perspective, it is hard to imagine Ukraine becoming a NATO member, whether Ukraine joins NATO or not. Of course, this country’s membership in the military alliance is the least likely scenario. Security guarantees must be provided to Kyiv.
