Majid Tavakoli’s case was returned from the court to the prosecutor’s office due to incomplete investigations.
Majid Tavakoli, a political activist in Iran, announced a few hours ago that his court session was held today, April 25, 2023, but due to incomplete investigations and documentation, the case has been returned to the prosecutor’s office for further review and to schedule the next session. Mr. Tavakoli was arrested at the beginning of the recent nationwide protests in Iran and was released on bail after 88 days.
His supporters last night, on the eve of the court session, referred to him as the ‘son of Iran’ and the ‘honor of the student movement’ in a Twitter storm. Some users recalled his years of struggle, fearless criticism of the Islamic Republic, and enduring years of imprisonment during his youth. This Twitter storm, with over 10,000 tweets, comes after some users had criticized his political stance in recent days.
Majid Tavakoli’s political activities became newsworthy during his student years starting in 2007. That year, he was arrested at Amir Kabir University after protesting a speech by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and criticizing Ali Khamenei. He was released after 15 months of imprisonment and a hunger strike, having been acquitted of the charges.
