Major American TV networks halted joint video coverage of Trump events
Five major American TV networks, including Fox News, ABC, CBS, CNN, and NBC, announced that they would stop joint video coverage of the President’s events after the Trump administration prevented CNN from attending a scheduled news pool at the White House. In a joint statement, these networks declared that the government should not restrict a news organization due to objections to its coverage and emphasized the fundamental importance of public access to independent information about government actions. This decision was made after the White House barred reporters from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from accessing the White House and revoked their credentials. These three media outlets have also filed lawsuits against the Trump administration, arguing that the White House’s action violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. As a result of this decision, Trump’s trip to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly will temporarily proceed without joint video coverage by the TV networks.
