Makarem Shirazi’s Fatwa on the Hijab of Religious Female Students

Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, a Shia cleric, issued a fatwa stating that the hijab for devout women in higher education is not necessary if it causes setbacks in occupying important positions.

In this fatwa, he explained that considering if devout Muslim girls do not pursue higher education, only irreligious and immoral individuals will occupy significant positions, religious individuals are allowed not to observe the hijab in necessary situations but must adhere to it otherwise.
