Marco Rubio: Trump is Responsible for Increased NATO Countries' Participation in Defense

Marco Rubio says Trump is responsible for increasing NATO countries’ participation in defense

Rubio is the United States Secretary of State

Each NATO member country should contribute significantly, but we hadn’t seen that until now. We are just beginning to see movements; more countries are allocating more budget to their defense, and this is largely due to the pressure President Trump has applied.

Almost all U.S. presidents in the past 25 years have complained that NATO partners are not doing their fair share, but Trump is the only president who has really insisted on this issue and achieved results.

Things are moving in a good direction. NATO is a good organization, but only as long as it is real, meaning as long as it is truly a defensive alliance and not just the United States carrying all the burden while other countries play the role of second-rate partners who don’t contribute their share.
