Marjane Satrapi won the Princess of Asturias Award in Spain

Marjane Satrapi, the creator and writer of the animation Persepolis, was awarded the special prize by the jury of the Princess of Asturias Foundation in Spain.

Ms. Satrapi, an Iranian-French artist, was honored in a ceremony for what was described as her essential role in defending human rights and freedoms.

In a statement released by this center, Satrapi was introduced as a symbolic figure in promoting women’s civic participation, recognized for her boldness in her artistic work as one of the most influential people in the dialogue between generations and cultures.

This 54-year-old writer and artist, born in Iran, published a book about the nationwide protests in Iran in 2022, in collaboration with several other artists, during the Women, Life, Freedom protests.
