Masoud Kordpour Sentenced to 17 Months in Prison

Masoud Kurdpour Sentenced to 17 Months in Prison

Human rights sources reported on Sunday that Masoud Kurdpour, a journalist and director of the Mokrian News Agency, has been sentenced to 17 months in prison.

According to the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, which covers news related to the Kurdish regions of Iran, this journalist and political prisoner has been sentenced to a total of 17 months in prison by the Boukan Revolutionary Court on charges such as propaganda against the regime and disruption of public order.

According to the law on the aggregation of sentences, the most severe punishment, which is 9 months of imprisonment, will be applicable to Mr. Kurdpour.

Mr. Kurdpour was arrested on September 20 during public protests in Boukan. He had previously been arrested and imprisoned twice.

This journalist from Boukan was first arrested in September 2008 and sentenced to one year in prison on charges of propaganda against the regime, and was released after serving his sentence. The second time, he was arrested in March 2013 and sentenced to three years in prison.

He was also dismissed from his position as a teacher at Boukan’s Department of Education by the Administrative Violations Board in November 2009.
