Masoumeh Ebtekar: People are upset and angry about the government's double standards

Masoumeh Ebtekar: People are upset and angry about the government’s double standards.

Masoumeh Ebtekar, a reformist political activist, says the government’s perspective and double standards have caused a significant portion of various social groups to doubt defending the oppressed people of Gaza.

The former head of the Environmental Protection Organization wrote in a note titled ‘Alongside Gaza, on Which Side of History’ in the Etmad newspaper that the so-called national media, IRIB, has not only lost its authority but also negatively impacted the public’s trust in the government.

Ms. Ebtekar wrote that the biased advertising and news on Iranian state television have been so extensive that they have even affected support for the Palestinian people.

She wrote that people are upset and angry that their support in various events like Quds Day is exploited by those who do not value their opinions on democracy and self-determination, and now with a uniform governance, they have displayed inefficiency in managing the country. They have long been dissatisfied with the exploitation by a small group of totalitarians.

During the weekly protests in the city of Zahedan, at sports events, and on social networks, images and videos have been published showing people chanting slogans against the government’s policies on Gaza or posting related content.
