Mawlavi Abdul Hamid: Removing the Hijab in Iran is a Result of Ineffective Policies

Mawlavi Abdul Hamid Ismaeelzahi, the Sunni Friday prayer leader of Zahedan, has stated that the phenomenon of removing the hijab in the country is a result of ineffective policies.

In a tweet, he wrote that many women, despite believing in the hijab, use it as a political act and civil disobedience in protest against the current conditions. Experience has shown that harsh treatment of the result leads to the opposite effect. The authorities should address the main causes.

Opposition to mandatory hijab was one of the primary goals of the recent protests in Iran. Currently, although the protests are not like the first months of this period of unrest, many women continue to significantly challenge the mandatory hijab, defying the government’s demand to cover their hair and head.

In recent days, the issue of enforcing mandatory hijab has been one of the most newsworthy topics in Iran.

Yesterday, Iran’s Ministry of Science and Ministry of Education announced that they will not provide services to students without a hijab.

For the past month, there has also been a wave of sealing commercial centers for providing services to women without a hijab.
