Medical Community Warns About the Return to Obsolete Medicine and Surgery in Iran

Warning from the medical community about reverting to outdated medicine and surgery in Iran

Iranian doctors and specialists warn about reverting to outdated medicine and surgery due to the economic crisis in the healthcare sector.

In a report published on Monday, July 3rd, the Etemad newspaper quoted several medical specialists and healthcare officials in the country, stating that the main reason for the current situation is the lack of funds in hospitals and medical centers following the removal of the 4,200-toman exchange rate known as the preferential rate.

Ahmad Mir, a general surgeon and chairman of the board of Jam Hospital, told Etemad that many surgeries in Iran are difficult to perform due to the lack of necessary equipment or the lengthy process of obtaining them.

Mr. Mir stated that with the continued rise in the prices of medical equipment and the lack of funds in hospitals to update infrastructure, a significant decline in the quality of healthcare services should be expected.
