Macron and the Hungarian Prime Minister Meet in Paris
Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, hosted Viktor Orbán, the nationalist Prime Minister of Hungary, in Paris on Monday evening, and they held discussions.
During this meeting, Emmanuel Macron emphasized the need for European countries to unite in light of the ongoing war in Ukraine, as well as the importance of European values and the rule of law.
This comes as Viktor Orbán, unlike many European leaders, has previously openly criticized the EU’s stance on the current military conflict in Ukraine.
According to an Élysée spokesperson, the meeting between the French President and the Hungarian Prime Minister was a new opportunity to reaffirm the importance of European values and the unity of EU member states in supporting Ukraine, particularly through imposing sanctions against Moscow to counter Russian military aggression.
According to Radio France Internationale, it is also expected that Mr. Macron reminded Hungary of the necessity to approve Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO during this meeting.
