Meeting of the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council with the Armenian counterpart
Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, met with his Armenian counterpart Armen Grigoryan on Sunday in Tehran.
In this meeting, which took place following the escalation of tensions between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Shamkhani stated that tension and conflict in the Caucasus region are not in the interest of the countries in the region.
Mr. Shamkhani said that any change in the geography of the South Caucasus region is a provocative act and aligns with the desires of the enemies of the region’s security and stability.
He also expressed hope that the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia could manage the tensions with restraint and prudence.
The Republic of Azerbaijan has accused Iran of siding with Armenia in the territorial dispute between these two neighboring countries.
The escalation of tensions between Tehran and Baku has led to the expulsion of four Iranian diplomats from the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In recent days, the foreign ministers of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan have held two phone conversations discussing ways to resolve the crisis.
