Mehdi Beyk Went on Hunger Strike in Protest Against Executions

Mehdi Beyk went on a hunger strike in protest against the executions.

Mehdi Beyk Oghli, the political editor of the Etemad newspaper, went on a hunger strike two days after his arrest.

Mehdi Beyk’s wife shared this news on Twitter, writing, ‘I don’t know if they have informed him of the painful news about Mehdi Karami or not. Today, the judiciary announced that Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Mohammad Hosseini, two of the detained protesters, have been executed.’

Mehdi Beyk was arrested by intelligence ministry agents on Thursday. He was one of the few journalists within the country who continued to report on the situation of detainees and those sentenced to execution despite increasing pressure from security agencies.

Elias Hazrati, the managing director of Etemad newspaper, wrote in a note titled ‘We Are the Voice of Our Colleague’ that he considers it his obvious and natural responsibility as the owner and founder of the Etemad media group to fully support his colleagues in this organization.
