Mehdi Beyk Went on Hunger Strike in Protest Against Executions

Mehdi Beik went on a hunger strike in protest against the executions.

Mehdi Beik Oghli, the political service editor of the Etemad newspaper, went on a hunger strike two days after his arrest.

Mehdi Beik’s wife shared this news on Twitter, writing, ‘I don’t know if they have informed him of the painful news about Mehdi Karami or not. Today, the judiciary announced that Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Mohammad Hosseini, two of the detained protesters, have been executed.’

Mehdi Beik was arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence agents on Thursday. He was one of the few journalists inside the country who continued to report on the situation of detainees and those sentenced to death, despite increasing pressure from security agencies.

Elyas Hazrati, the managing director of the Etemad newspaper, wrote in a note titled ‘We Are the Voice of Our Colleague,’ stating, ‘As the owner and founder of the Etemad media group, I consider it my obvious and natural responsibility to fully support my colleagues in this organization.’
