Mehdi Nasiri’s reaction to the statements of the leader of the Islamic Republic: only a few Basij casualties matter to him
Mehdi Nasiri, a critic of the leader of the Islamic Republic, reacted to the recent speech of the leader by stating that only a few Basij casualties or martyrs matter to him.
Mr. Nasiri, who was previously the editor-in-chief of Kayhan newspaper, a hardline media outlet of the Islamic Republic, criticized the lack of freedoms in Iran, especially media freedom, in a note addressed to the leader of the Islamic Republic on Monday, June 5. He wrote that only a few Basij casualties or martyrs matter to you, while hundreds of other casualties among the people and youth in recent public protests are not even worth mentioning. Yet, in speeches, the Iranian nation is repeatedly mentioned, which results from the miracle of suppressing freedom and controlling all audio, visual, written, and oral media.
On Sunday, the leader of the Islamic Republic claimed in his annual speech at Ruhollah Khomeini’s mausoleum that during the recent nationwide protests, thugs tortured and killed several young students or Basij clerics or security or Basij elements in the streets in front of people’s eyes, making them martyrs.
