The Voice of Heritage: Members of the largest historical artifact smuggling ring in Iran have been arrested
Members of the largest historical artifact smuggling ring from Iran, who intended to smuggle 3,600 historical items and sell them for $11 million in the UAE, were arrested at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Airport
The news website Voice of Heritage reported that this ring, by creating a secure route and collaborating with Imam Khomeini Airport staff, was able to pass the largest smuggled historical artifact shipment through the first inspection gate and board the plane after delivering the suitcases
Voice of Heritage described this smuggled shipment of historical artifacts as unprecedented, including rare coins and historical vessels from the Sassanian era and other periods
The site, quoting informed sources, also reported that airport security forces, by checking the mobile phones of the ring members, found multiple images of ancient artifacts, including an image of a Sassanian relief that was discovered in London in 2016
