The MI5 chief names Iran, Russia, and China as security threats to the UK
Ken McCallum, the head of the UK’s domestic security service, warned that the country is now facing a more complex array of security threats compared to the time of the 9/11 attacks. The MI5 chief stated that alongside the ongoing risk of terrorist attacks, national security threats stemming from the activities of foreign governments have also increased, with the UK facing actions such as cyberattacks, sabotage, and the use of intermediaries. McCallum had previously identified Iran, Russia, and China as three countries that, according to him, are linked to a significant portion of the state or state-supported activities that MI5 deals with daily. Regarding Iran, MI5 specifically accused Tehran of attempting to target dissidents and individuals residing in the UK, accusations that Iran has previously denied.
