Microsoft fined $3 million for violating Iran sanctions

The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Thursday that it has reached an agreement with Microsoft over sanctions violations.

According to Reuters, Microsoft has agreed to pay about $3 million for over 1,300 apparent violations of sanctions related to Cuba, Iran, Syria, and Russia.

Microsoft’s potential liability in these cases, which involve exporting services or software from the United States to sanctioned jurisdictions, is non-criminal.

The Treasury Department added that Microsoft reported these cases itself.
