Microsoft has requested Donald Trump to make more efforts against cyberattacks from Russia, China, and Iran amid a wave of state-sponsored hacks targeting U.S. government officials and election campaigns.
Brad Smith, who is also Microsoft’s Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, told the Financial Times that cybersecurity deserves more attention in international relations and urged the U.S. president-elect to send a strong message.
Smith said, ‘I hope the Trump administration will take stricter actions against state-sponsored cyberattacks, especially from Russia, China, and Iran. We should not tolerate the level of attacks we are witnessing today.’
Ransomware attacks against American businesses have increased in recent years, often carried out by criminal groups, which, according to Smith, have been tolerated and in some cases even facilitated by the Russian government.
