Microsoft Warns About Activation of Iran-Linked Hackers

Microsoft’s warning about activation of Iran-linked hackers

In a new warning, Microsoft revealed that hacker groups affiliated with the Islamic Republic of Iran have now joined financially motivated hackers who are exploiting a significant vulnerability in office print management software called PaperCut.

More than 100 million users in over 70,000 companies and government organizations worldwide use this printing device software, and in recent days, various groups have been exploiting a technical flaw in this software to install ransomware and extort companies and offices.

The Microsoft team wrote in a series of tweets that the Iranian hacker group known as Mango Sandstorm, also known as Mercury or Muddywater, and linked to the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic, and another group called Mint Sandstorm, also known as Phosphorus or APT35 and affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, have now joined the attacks against PaperCut, and Microsoft has been tracking them.
