Middle East on the Line of Embezzlement

According to a Swiss magazine report, the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon has deposited between 300 to 500 million dollars in 12 bank accounts in Switzerland.

The Swiss magazine Zontagstszeitung reports that among these, 250 million dollars are in Raja Salameh’s account for Riad Salameh, the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon.

In Lebanon, a legal case has been filed against Salameh on charges of embezzlement, and an informed official has emphasized that Salameh, his brother, and his assistant are accused of embezzlement and money laundering.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, who was once considered a potential future president of the country, denies these allegations.

Despite all the complaints, cases, investigations, and the travel ban on 72-year-old Riad Salameh, he has remained in his position since 1993, which is considered one of the longest tenures of a central bank governor in the world. His term is set to end in May 2023, and he has announced that he has no desire to extend his presidency.
