Middle East on the embezzlement line
According to a report by a Swiss magazine, the head of the Central Bank of Lebanon has deposited between $300 million to $500 million in 12 Swiss bank accounts.
The Swiss magazine Zentralschweiz Zeitung has revealed that there is $250 million in an account under the name of Riad Salameh, the head of the Central Bank of Lebanon, for Riad Salameh.
Salameh is facing embezzlement charges in Lebanon, and an informed source has confirmed that Salameh, his brother, and his assistant are accused of embezzlement and money laundering.
The head of the Central Bank of Lebanon, who was once considered a future president of the country, denies these allegations.
Despite all the complaints, cases, investigations, and travel bans, the 72-year-old Riad Salameh has remained in his position since 1993, making it one of the longest tenures as the head of a central bank in the world. His term is supposed to end in May 2023, and he has stated that he has no intention of extending his term.
