Migrant Boat Sinks Off Turkish Coast, At Least Seven Dead

The sinking of a refugee boat off the coast of Turkey left at least seven victims

The Turkish Coast Guard announced that a boat carrying a number of refugees collided with rocks on Tuesday near the coastal town of Cesme in Turkey, located in the Aegean Sea, and seven of its passengers were killed. The passengers of a fishing boat managed to pull another refugee from the water before the Coast Guard arrived.

Eighteen others, including several children, were rescued on the shores of the small island of Karaada near Cesme.

The Turkish Coast Guard stated in a statement that efforts to find and rescue one missing migrant are ongoing.

The Turkish Coast Guard claims that Greek authorities abandoned these refugees in Turkish territorial waters on a rescue boat, which subsequently collided with rocks and sank.
