The Minister of Communications stated that fiber optic equipment has been destroyed by the Telecommunications Company.
In response to this question, Eisa Zarepour mentioned various reports from some cities indicating that the Telecommunications Company has been sabotaging fiber optic equipment and communication cables of some internet companies to eliminate competitors. The Ministry of Communications needs to clarify its actions. We have received reports and seen videos circulating online about such incidents. I have repeatedly emphasized that the Iranian Telecommunications Company is no longer the sole player in the field of fixed communications and must acknowledge that it now has competitors and new partners, and it needs to operate in a competitive environment where people have the right to choose.
He stated, ‘We are on the side of the people. Naturally, people will choose the service that can provide better service to them, and we should not obstruct people’s choices.’
He emphasized that in situations where it is possible for a better service to be provided by another operator, the Telecommunications Company or any other service provider should not hinder the provision of better service.
Zarepour, in response to a question about the ongoing destruction of fiber optic cables, stated that both private sectors are involved. If anyone engages in the destruction of other properties, the legal steps and procedures for handling it are specified in the law, and avenues for addressing it exist. They can pursue it according to the law, but it seems like a transitional period and it will definitely pass smoothly and well.
