Ministry of Health: One in Four People in Iran Suffers from Mental Health Issues

The Ministry of Health states that one in four people in Iran suffers from mental health issues.

Mohammadreza Shalbafan, Director General of the Office of Social and Addiction Mental Health at the Ministry of Health, said that 25% of Iran’s population lives with some form of psychiatric disorder.

Shalbafan noted that one in four Iranians suffers from some type of psychiatric issue, while many patients not only do not receive treatment, but in some cases even hide their illness.

At the same time, the Shargh newspaper, citing mental health experts, has mentioned the increase in poverty, unemployment, migration, social insecurity, and economic conditions as factors contributing to the rise in rates of depression, anxiety, and mood disorders in Iran.
