Message from Mir Hossein Mousavi from house arrest: Mir Hossein’s call for a new constitution to save Iran
Implementing the constitution without any deviation, as a slogan hoped for thirteen years ago, is no longer effective.
Iran and Iranians are in need of and ready for a fundamental transformation, the main outlines of which are drawn by the pure movement of Woman, Life, Freedom. These three words are the seeds of a bright future, a future free from oppression, poverty, humiliation, and discrimination. These are three words that carry with them a history of struggle, thought, and aspiration, and among them, ‘woman’ is the most hopeful because happiness and public good are not achieved, and great social struggles do not succeed unless women and men stand together, and there is no struggle that does not succeed under this condition.
The refuge of the people’s power is not in weapons and repression, but in the unity of the nation. The same nation, if its attention is focused and interested in a new order, the previous structure will collapse, whether it wants to or not.
The same right that was the foundation of the people’s revolution in 1979 and the current constitution is also evident for future generations. If the decisions of the predecessors led to deadlocks in society’s life or were tools for the power-seekers’ abuse, they should be able to make fundamental revisions to overcome crises and open the path towards freedom, justice, democracy, and development. To maintain public security and prevent violence, they should demand a change in the existing order or the drafting of an entirely new covenant, a draft of which should be prepared by representatives elected by the people from all ethnicities and with any political and ideological inclination, and approved by the nation in a free referendum.
Clarifying the ambiguities of this proposal requires reflection and cooperation. To save Iran, that mother from whom a child named joy is lost, with bright, sparkling eyes and long hair reaching the heights of aspiration, whoever has any trace of her, let them inform us. This is our sign: on one side, the Persian Gulf, on the other, the Caspian Sea.
