Moein, the former head of the Medical Council, says we are witnessing the migration and exodus of doctors.
Dr. Mostafa Moein, the former head of the Medical Council, wrote in an article titled ‘The Imminent Fall of Iranian Medicine’ warning about the country’s medical situation, stating that we will soon face a decline in medicine.
The promotion of pseudoscience and superstition as Islamic medicine on national media and by officials, in fact, undermines the Iranian medical community, which enjoys the highest public acceptance and trust, resulting in the migration and even mass exodus of doctors and nurses due to the neglect, injustices, and lack of appreciation.
The living conditions of doctors in the public sector are disorganized. I hold the record for infant heart surgeries, and even now, my surgery waiting list is full until 2026, and I cannot accept a child in need of non-emergency surgery until 2027.
For years, we have been warning various officials about these issues. Pediatric heart surgery is a difficult specialty and is not popular, which is why we cannot meet the demand for this number of patients.
Even now, I cannot tell young doctors to enter this field because they are fully aware of its difficulties and do not accept the conditions.
