Moejerani: Israeli lobby pressure prevented a diplomatic agreement
Fatemeh Moejerani, spokesperson for the Islamic Republic government, said on Wednesday, September 30, on the sidelines of the weekly cabinet meeting of Massoud Pezeshkian, that Abbas Araqchi had proposed to European countries in New York to hold a meeting with representatives from Britain, Germany, and France, as well as Steve Witkoff, the senior American negotiator and head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, but this request was rejected.
Moejerani said, announcing the failure of diplomatic efforts, that the Foreign Minister added that initially, the discussion was to be about the 60% uranium stockpile in exchange for the snapback mechanism. Iran’s demand was the complete removal of the snapback, but the other side did not agree.
At first, they said it should be suspended for about 6 months.
This was emphasized by Mr. Witkoff, and the Foreign Minister also stated that entering talks with this conclusion is no longer called negotiation.
However, considering the national interests at stake for the country, even on the last night, a proposal for a 45-day delay was put forward by Iran, which ultimately was not accepted due to the pressure from the Israeli lobby.
