Mohammad Hassan Asafari, a member of the Councils and Internal Affairs Commission of the Iranian Parliament, said that the plan for organizing gatherings has been shelved in this commission and the Parliament is waiting for the government’s bill.
Meanwhile, Babak Negahdari, head of the Parliament’s Research Center, has announced the drafting of a proposal for organizing gatherings and marches to create legal avenues for expressing criticisms.
The Iranian government has always suppressed any peaceful gathering on the pretext that it lacks a permit and is therefore illegal, while the Ministry of Interior grants permits only for governmental gatherings and none for civil or professional ones.
For years, there has been a discussion about issuing permits for political and professional gatherings and designating specific locations for them. However, since the regime cannot tolerate even the slightest protest, and even if a permit is issued, security forces, Basij, and plainclothes agents attack them, it has ultimately led nowhere.
