Mohammad Mohajeri: This year’s elections proved that principlism is over
Mohammad Mohajeri told Shargh newspaper that although hardliner figures in Tehran and some cities have managed to enter the progressive parliament, these figures are merely noisy figures trying to take control of the 12th parliament with controversies.
Focusing on the representatives who have entered the 12th parliament from Tehran, Mohajeri believes that a person like Nabavian, who was the top vote-getter in the capital, has even received a hundred thousand fewer votes than he did in the elections two terms ago. Therefore, he says, the notion that principlists have managed to garner more votes in Tehran is completely incorrect.
Mohajeri considers the 12th parliament to be weaker in terms of public support and social backing than the current parliament, while he also claims that the 11th parliament has been the weakest parliament in the history of the revolution.
With this interpretation, Mohajeri continues, when 60 percent of eligible voters have said no to these elections, and on the other hand, with a calculation, the representatives of the 12th parliament represent an average of seven percent of the entire Iranian society, therefore, from his perspective, one cannot expect a strong and effective parliament.
