Mohammad Rasoulof was sentenced to eight years in prison, flogging, and a fine.
Mohammad Rasoulof, a well-known director and critic of the Islamic Republic, has been sentenced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic to eight years in prison, flogging, and a fine.
Babak Paknia, Mr. Rasoulof’s lawyer, announced on Wednesday, May 9, in a message on the social network X, formerly Twitter, that his client has been sentenced by the 29th branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Court to serve eight years in prison, five years enforceable, flogging, a fine, and confiscation of property.
He further clarified that this sentence was upheld in the 36th branch of the appeals court and now the case has been sent for execution of the sentences.
Mr. Paknia says the main reason for issuing this sentence is signing statements and making films and documentaries, which the court considers as acts of assembly and collusion with the intent to commit crimes against national security.
