Mohammad Taghi Fazel Meybodi: Hijab should not be out of fear of cameras and religious authorities

Fazel Meybodi, a reformist political activist, says: A woman on the street wears her hijab out of fear of authorities or cameras, and then removes it elsewhere where there are no cameras or authorities. This is not religion or hijab. Therefore, in my opinion, this method breeds hypocrisy.

In fact, we are creating a public face for society in front of the government and a different one in private, away from the government. Essentially, no jurist has ever said that we should impose the command of good and forbidding of evil among people through force, coercion, and threat. In my view, this method is not correct and has the opposite effect.

In any case, this issue should be left to the people, and they should be advised and counseled. The method should be changed, and the rules of Islam and Sharia should not be promoted and propagated in society through force, coercion, and threat.
