Mohammad Taghi Fazel Meybodi: Mehdi Karroubi has contracted COVID-19

Mohammad Taghi Fazel Meybodi, a member of the Qom Seminary Teachers Association and a close associate of Mehdi Karroubi, has announced that Karroubi has contracted COVID-19.

Mr. Meybodi stated in a message on the social network X that Mr. Karroubi has been hospitalized due to contracting COVID-19.

He also mentioned that during a phone call with Mr. Karroubi, he was unable to speak.

Mehdi Karroubi was a presidential candidate in Iran’s 2009 election, who, along with Mir Hossein Mousavi, protested the announced election results. These two, along with Zahra Rahnavard, Mr. Mousavi’s wife, have been under house arrest since February 2011.

Last year, according to their families, it was announced that some restrictions on Mr. Karroubi, Mr. Mousavi, and Ms. Rahnavard’s house arrest had been reduced, allowing Mr. Karroubi to meet with his family and Mr. Mousavi and Ms. Rahnavard to make phone calls to people other than their family.
