Mohsen Shakari's Tombstone Vandalized Again: First Paint, Now Tar

Destruction of Mohsen Shekari’s tombstone again: first paint, now tar

Masoud Shekari, the father of Mohsen Shekari, announced on his Instagram on April 14 that his son’s tombstone has been vandalized again. He wrote that tar had been smeared on it, but he was able to clean it off.

This is the second time in five days that Mohsen Shekari’s tombstone has been vandalized. On April 9, Mr. Shekari had posted that paint was thrown on his son’s tombstone.

In recent days, pressure on the families seeking justice, whose children were killed or executed during nationwide protests, has increased. Reports of arrests, court summons, and threats have surfaced. The destruction of the graves of those killed in protests, opponents of the Iranian government, prominent cultural and artistic figures, and Baha’is has repeatedly occurred over the past 44 years by Iranian government forces or their supporters.

Mohsen Shekari was a 22-year-old protester who was arrested on September 25, 2022, and sentenced to death for the charge of ‘waging war against God’ on November 20. This sentence was carried out on December 8.
