Mojgan Kavoosi Released on Bail

Mojgan Kavousi was released on bail

Mojgan Kavousi, a Kurdish researcher and writer from Kelardasht, was released from prison on a bail of 3 billion tomans.

According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, Ms. Kavousi was sentenced to five years and two months of imprisonment on January 28, which her lawyers have appealed. Ms. Kavousi had previously been accused of ‘corruption on earth’ but was acquitted of this charge.

Ms. Kavousi, who follows the Yarsan faith and resides in Kelardasht, was arrested on Thursday, September 22, 2022.

According to the Hrana news agency, she was tried in the Sari Revolutionary Court, and among other charges, she was accused of inciting people to conflict and spreading immorality through posts on her personal page.

Following widespread protests in Iran, the government has harshly suppressed the protesters, arresting many, and has charged some of the detainees with serious accusations such as ‘corruption on earth’, ‘enmity against God’, and ‘armed rebellion’, which could lead to a death sentence.
