More than a hundred cultural and artistic figures worldwide call for the release of Toomaj Salehi

More than one hundred cultural and artistic figures from around the world have called for the release of Toomaj Salehi.

Over 100 international cultural and artistic figures, including big names like Sting, Coldplay, and Margaret Atwood, have signed a letter demanding the immediate release of Toomaj Salehi, a young Iranian rapper and protester, from the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The letter states: We, artists, musicians, and leading cultural figures, express our solidarity with Toomaj Salehi. We demand the immediate and unconditional cancellation of his death sentence, the dropping of all charges, and his urgent release.

These artists and prominent figures further wrote in the letter that art must be allowed to challenge and question the authority of rulers, criticize them, and provoke them. This is both our right and duty as artists.

Amir Raeesian, Toomaj Salehi’s lawyer, announced on the fifth of Ordibehesht that a death sentence had been issued for his client due to the charges in the 1401 case at the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan.
