More than one-third of English people do not adhere to any religion.
The results of the 2021 census in the UK show that followers of Christianity have, for the first time, become a minority in England and Wales.
According to data from the UK’s Office for National Statistics, 46.2% of the population in England identifies as Christian. This figure was 59.3% in the census a decade ago.
Meanwhile, more than one-third of the population in England, specifically 37%, stated in the census that they do not follow any religion. This figure was only 25% in the 2011 census.
