More than one-third of the English do not adhere to any religion.
The result of the 2021 census in the United Kingdom shows that followers of Christianity have, for the first time, become a minority in England and Wales.
According to data from the UK’s Office for National Statistics, 46.2% of England’s population identifies as Christian. This figure was 59.3% in the census a decade ago.
Meanwhile, more than one-third of England’s population, or 37%, stated in the census that they do not follow any religion. This figure was only 25% in the 2011 census.
