Mohammad Mohedi Azad, the Attorney General of the country, announced on Monday, May 4th, that two people have been arrested so far in connection with the explosion incident at the Rajaei Port dock in Bandar Abbas.
He emphasized the necessity of thoroughly addressing this case and stated that they have stressed to the relevant judicial authorities that all aspects of this incident must be investigated with precision, speed, decisiveness, and without any reservations.
Earlier, Mohammad Ashouri Taziani, the governor of Hormozgan, reported the completion of search and investigation operations for the missing at the explosion site and announced that the final death toll from this incident has been reduced to 57 people.
He explained that previously the death toll was announced as 70 people, but after conducting specialized tests and investigations by the missing persons inquiry task force, the final figure was announced as 57 by the provincial judiciary.
Meanwhile, independent human rights sources had previously reported that at least 100 people were killed in this incident, a figure that significantly differs from the initial official reports stating 70 deaths, 1,242 injuries, and six missing following the severe explosion on the evening of Saturday, April 25th.
Rajaei Port in Bandar Abbas serves as the most critical center for the country’s maritime trade, handling nearly 80% of Iran’s commercial shipments.
